02 — Challenge
The Problem We Were Solving
Medeata launched when social media had become a passive experience — dominated by consumption, not creation — with few tools to help ordinary users make something genuinely original.
Pain point
Passive consumption
Existing platforms reward scrolling over creating — users lacked tools to produce and share original content
Pain point
Expression barriers
Too many obstacles between an idea and publishing it — complex editors, limited creative tools
Pain point
Market saturation
Breaking through against dominant platforms required a genuinely differentiated experience — not just another feed
Pain point
No AI in the flow
No social platform had meaningfully integrated AI into the creation experience to help users think, write, and illustrate
Core design challenge
"How do we build a social platform that shifts users from passive consumers to active creators — with AI as the creative co-pilot?"
Medeata
03 — Vision
Design Vision & Strategy
Medeata's north star was a platform that felt like a creative studio — not a feed. Every design decision pushed toward making creation feel as natural as scrolling.
Principle 1
Radical simplicity
An interface so light and frictionless that nothing stands between the user and their idea
Principle 2
AI as co-creator
AI amplifies creativity — post editing, image generation, and illustration baked natively into the creation flow
Principle 3
Freedom-first
Every screen signals openness — visually and functionally — reinforcing the platform's commitment to free expression
The design had to do something most social apps don't — make users feel like they could actually make something. Not just react to things other people made.
Design intent driving every screen decision

04 — Platform
The Desktop Experience
The web platform balances familiar social media rhythms with genuinely new creative tools — clean and modern, scaling gracefully from phone to desktop.

05 — Mobile App
The Mobile Experience
Mobile is where creativity happens in the moment. Every screen was designed to make creating — not just consuming — feel effortless.

Medeata
07 — Process
How We Got There
From vision alignment to multi-platform delivery — a design process built for speed, creative ambition, and close collaboration with a lean startup team.
1
Vision & competitive analysis
Mapped the existing social media landscape, identified the white space between passive consumption platforms and tools for actual creation.
2
User personas & journeys
Defined the creator-first user — someone with ideas blocked by existing platforms — and mapped their end-to-end journey from idea to published post.
3
Information architecture
Structured the platform around creation modes rather than content types — encouraging making rather than browsing.
4
Wireframes & prototypes
Rapid wireframing across web and mobile simultaneously — validating flows before any visual design investment.
5
Visual design & design system
Built the Medeata visual language — the Medeata blue palette, typography, and a component library spanning every screen and state.
6
AI feature UX design
Designed the AI Concierge interaction model — prompting, response display, image generation UI, and integration into the posting flow.
7
Handoff & dev collaboration
Delivered production-ready specs to engineering, maintaining close collaboration through to launch on App Store, Google Play, and web.

08 — My Contribution
What I Owned
I led the entire design function for Medeata — everything except backend and engineering — from brand identity to launch-ready specs across three platforms.
🎨
Brand & visual identity
Defined Medeata's visual language — the Medeata blue palette, typography, iconography, and aesthetic direction that makes the platform feel fresh and distinctive.
🗺️
UX strategy & information architecture
Designed the creator-first IA and user flows across all surfaces — intuitive from first launch through advanced AI feature use.
📱
Mobile design — iOS & Android
Designed the complete mobile experience: feed, creation flows, AI Concierge, gallery, and all interaction states across both platforms.
🖥️
Web & responsive design
Built the responsive web experience in parallel with mobile — consistent and platform-appropriate at every screen size.
🤖
AI feature UX design
Designed the AI Concierge interaction model — prompting patterns, streaming response UI, image generation flow, and integration into posting.
🧩
Design system & component library
Built a complete, scalable design system covering every component, state, and breakpoint — the single source of truth for engineering.

Key learning
AI UX is a new discipline
Designing the AI Concierge required entirely new patterns — prompting, streaming responses, fallback states. No established playbook exists yet.
Key learning
Simplicity is the hardest feature
The "super light" interface required more design work than a complex one. Every element had to earn its place.
If I did it again
Test with creators earlier
Onboarding non-creators into a creator-first platform is a bigger UX challenge than anticipated. Earlier user testing would have sharpened the first-run experience.
